Should be reading, but I'm posting instead

First week of classes was *crazy*! Honestly, I've barely read any of my assigned readings because I have been working my butt off on my community college applications - which take a *lot* of work! I've been into the career center twice this week and met with my professor from my Teaching in the Community College class once this week, all about getting feedback on my application materials. The meetings have gone well, I'm getting the things together and I think they're looking good. My first application is for Foothill College, and it's due next week.

Oh yeah, so about classes. I'm taking:

- Thinking Through Poetry (TTP)
- Problems Around Foucault (PAF)
-Teaching in the Community College (TCC)

Funny story about about PAP: it's a "superstar" professor teaching it (world famous philosopher guy), so 35 grad students showed up for the 12-15 available spots. We each had to fill out an "application" pleading our case for taking the course.

I get home from class, and Professor Davidson (the superstar) calls me to ask me more questions about my "application." He said this was a tough decision for him because he really didn't have much room for MAPH students (that's my program) because of his commitments to the Philosophy and Divinity and whatever departments, etc . . . but he said he was intrigued by how I proposed to use Foucault for my MA thesis, so he wanted some more details - about my undergrad work with Foucault, what I've done with him recently, will I read him in French (I said yes - FML), etc. [To clarify: I'm talking about Michel Foucault, the famous French philosopher.]

And guess what??? I GOT IN! Man, I feel special. I ran into this philosophy guy from my program who was also trying to get into the class, and he's all, "Did you get in???" "I did!" "Oh wow, I'm jealous, congratulations!" Wattup!

I like the professor, he's a great lecturer and super approachable - I already hit up his office hours yesterday.

Oh yeah, P.S., about my thesis topic: I'm using Foucault's philosophy to analyze love, power, and how people form their concepts of self and ethics in Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor.

So this weekend, I gotta work like crazy to get this job application done and then get caught up on my work - especially because Laura, my BFF from UCLA, is coming next Thursday for a four-day visit! We haven't seriously hung out in like a year and half, so this visit is going to be *awesome*.

I'll end with a pictures from break!
