The week of Hegel

I got a B+ on my second paper! WOOT! Nate said it was a very good paper. I met with the department's writing adviser, and he told me my writing is very good - he sees a lot of tortured writing, and mine conclusively was not.

We've been reading Hegel in my core course this week, hence the title. For those of you who haven't read Hegel: don't bother. My brain is in pain right now . . . and I have a paper due on Monday on Hegel! Yay!

A note of clarification: it occurred to me that you might not all understand what I meant when I said last Saturday was declared "Garfield Day". So here's the story:

Garfield is really good at doing things for other people (i.e. me), but he's really bad at asking for things for himself and making sure that he's taken care of. So, back in the summer, I declared a Garfield Day, and this is what it looked like: Sandy wasn't allowed to talk about herself, I made him dinner while he got to sit in peace and play video games, and Garfield got to do whatever he wanted the entire night. The big key was Sandy didn't talk about herself and didn't make any requests of Garfield.

Fast forward to now, and Garfield has been going way out of his way for me all summer and into the fall: flying out here for my move, worked his butt off helping me settle in, he comes right home every day and talks to me on video chat for usually two hours - which, at the beginning, involved a lot of listening to stressed and crying Sandy and rambling about philosophy and class choices and how many times Juliano pooped that day (that's actually every day), he flew out here 3.5 weeks after my move to come visit me, taking a day off work and working remotely to make it happen . . . So there's been a *lot* of SANDY these past months, and everything is continuing to be very SANDY oriented with my being in school and financially bound to Chicago basically during the quarter. SO, while Garfield was here, it felt very needed to devote some time to Garfield and doing whatever *he* wanted to do. And he loves surprises, so I filled the day with fun surprises that I knew he'd enjoy.

Oops, I gotta run. I'm catching the bus at 11:30a to catch the noon Masters practice, then I have to run back home to shower, grab lunch, pick up Juliano, then superduper speed walk back to campus for Precept at 2:30p. So until next time!

  1. OMG, a GF that actually does things FOR G instead of just making crazy demands! WEIRD! :P

Hey, don't forget your friends have been making sacrifices for you too. We have to put up with G being constantly on the phone with you. Twice in two weeks I had to box his dinner up because we arrived, ordered, ate, and paid for the bill while he was still on the phone with you. Where's my Pinski day? :P
